JLB Partners will build a large apartment project in KDC’s $1.5 billion mixed-use development in Richardson.

Professional services firm Towers Watson is leasing a third office in Richardson, where it plans to hire 1,600 full-time, temporary benefit advisers and support staff.

There has never been a real estate deal like the State Farm deal in North Texas. Longtime property brokers say that no other company has leased so much office space in the Dallas area in such a short period. The State Farm office complex will be one of the region’s biggest employment centers, with thousands of workers.

REDP has partnered with UT Dallas to join the US Ignite initiative. Through this partnership, Richardson and UT Dallas will explore opportunities to develop applications for access to an ultra-fast broadband network, uniquely positioning them to help North Texas-based companies, independent application developers, researchers and students in creating and testing innovative new applications requiring ultra-high bandwidth.

State Farm Insurance, plans to officially break ground next month on its 1.5 million-square-foot regional operations center in Richardson. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, at 3521 N. Plano Rd.

Late last year developer KDC said the State Farm office complex would be about 1.5 million square feet, but the office complex has grown by almost another 1 million square feet, real estate sources say.

Richardson projects won a D CEO Commercial Real Estate award and four DBJ Best Real Estate Deal awards in 2013, including the big one – Deal of the Year.

Richardson has experienced an uptick in retail activity the past few months with the introduction of new restaurant concepts such as Shady’s, Haystack and Pearl Cup Coffee.
