Richardson Bike Mart (RBM) is a highly successful retailer in North Texas with national reputation and a unique niche among both recreational bikers and serious racers, including Richardson’s own Lance Armstrong, who purchased his first bicycle from Richardson Bike Mart in 1987. The Bike Mart was founded in 1962 by a college student Mike Hall but did not move to the retailing forefront until it was acquired in 1980 by Jim Hoyt, an ex-Marine and veteran of the Viet Nam War’s battle for “Hamburger Hill”. Jim changed the business name to Richardson Bike Mart and with the slogan “a few good men and a can-do spirit”, he built a retail bicycling institution around RBM’s sponsorship of bike races and racers like 7-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong.
