Wingstop reports gain in Super Sunday sales

Feb 13, 2012

Richardson-based Wingstop sold an estimated 5.6 million wings on Super Bowl Sunday, up 12 percent from last year, when North Texas hosted the big game.

The sales gain is near double the growth in store count during that time. For last year’s Super Bowl, there were 470 stores, which calculates to about 10,638 wings sold per store.

This time there were 500 outlets, for about 11,200 wings sold per store.

Wings have been steadily gaining on pizza as the snack of choice during the annual slugfest. Recently that’s led to a spike in wing prices early in the year.
